Obituary

WOOD RIVER Arthur George Coddington, 80, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2013, at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born March 17, 1933, in St. Louis, Mo. The son of the late Arthur Louis and Gladys Marie (Lawrence)Coddington. He married Marion E. Hose on Jan. 30, 1953, in St. Louis, she survives. A veteran, he served his country in the Army, Air Force and the Marine Reserves. He was a Rail Road Engineer at Union Pacific Railways. He retired after 33 years in 1993. He was a member of the Mizpah Masonic Lodge in St. Louis. Besides his wife, survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Gregory of Wood River; one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Katherine Coddington of Glen Carbon; three grandchildren, Danielle and Josh Propst, Jacob Coddington, Noah Coddington; and three great-grandchildren, Tayler Tinnon, Aberlee Propst, and Jakoby Propst; six half sisters, Ellen Kinberg of Westlake Village, CA, Frieda and Robert Sims of Villaridge, MO, Audrey and Webster Alkins of Union, MO, Joyce and Christopher Flentke of Washington, MO, Joan Odien of Lebanon, MO, Linda McMahan of Springfield, MO; one step brother, Lesley and Thelma Campbell Sparks of NA. Preceded in death by a brother, Richard Coddington. Visitation: 5 p.m. until time of services at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River. Rev. Steve Gray to officiate. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday September 3, 2013, at Woodland Hill Cemetery in East Alton where Military Rites will be performed by the Alton VFW post #1308. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Alton 5?s.
