Betty Jean Fines, 83, passed away at 4:26 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in St. Charles, MO.
Betty was born September 6, 1932 in Alton to the late Christian and Helen (Decker) Phleger, and step-mother Eleanor Van Ant Werp Phleger.
She married Galen Wayne Fines on June 27, 1952, in Alton. He passed away December 21, 1992.
Betty retired in 1990 from East Alton School District 13, where she had been a secretary for 22 years.
Betty enjoyed music, reading, volunteering at 12th St. Presbyterian Church in Alton, where she was a member for over 65 years. She served on the Board of Deacons for six years, was Moderator for the United Presbyterian Women for six years and sang in the choir for many years. Since 2009, she attended the United Presbyterian Church of Wood River, volunteering at various functions.
Betty is survived by a sister, Jenny Ranney of Alton.
Beside her husband Galen, Father, Mother, and step-mother, she was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Reginia and husband Jim Mueller, Rebecca Hunter; three sisters, Virginia Phleger, Alice Sheff and Mary Phleger; a brother, Chris Phleger; Miss Kitty, her faithful companion.
Committal services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 10 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with the Rev. Pam Laing officiating.
Betty will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.
