Bonnie Lou Harris, née Cook, was born on September 2, 1949, in Alton, Illinois, and peacefully passed away on June 12, 2026, at her residence in Godfrey. She was a beloved daughter of Buford and Ruby Elizabeth (Chick) Cook and was cherished by all who knew her throughout her life.

Bonnie devoted a significant part of her life to serving her community as a school bus driver for the Alton 1st District Schools. Over the course of 25 years, she carried out her duties with dedication and care, ensuring the safety of countless children on their daily journeys to and from school. Her commitment to her work was a testament to her compassionate nature and steadfast reliability.

Beyond her professional contributions, Bonnie was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry M. Harris of Godfrey; and her grandsons, Ryan Harris, Rusty Harris, and Steven Harris, all of Godfrey. Their steadfast support and loving presence were a source of great joy in her life. Bonnie was also remembered fondly by her cherished dog, Zuse, who lived to the remarkable age of 15 and brought much happiness to her days.

Bonnie was predeceased by several beloved family members including her parents, Ruby Cook and Buford Cook; her son, James D. Harris; and her siblings Reanee Rister and Don Slaughter. Their memories remain deeply etched in the hearts of those she left behind, serving as a lasting legacy of family love and connection.

Her life, marked by devotion to family, community, and a gentle spirit, leaves a lasting impression on all who had the privilege to know her. Bonnie Lou Harris will be remembered with great respect and affection, her warmth and kindness continuing to resonate in the lives of her family and friends.

Bonnie's family has chosen to celebrate her life privately.
