WOOD RIVER — Caleb Otis Bost, 96, passed away at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Liberty Village of Maryville, with family by his side. He was born February 25, 1920, in Kansas City, Missouri, a son of Daniel Oscar and Cuma (Elam) Bost. Caleb married the former Nina Mae Brown on March 19, 1941, in St. Charles, Missouri, and they shared 67 years together before she passed away on September 25, 2008. He was a truck driver for Stahly Cartage Co. in South Roxana, and after 32 years, he retired on Dec. 31, 1980. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna F. and Jerry Spencer of Wood River; one son, Darrell O. Bost of Islamorada, Florida; 16 grandchildren: Gary and Kim Bost, Craig and Missy Bost, Jennifer and Eric Hawkins, Denise and Randy Oldham, Michelle and Jody Morgan, Jeanette Needham, Dana Needham, Missy and Dwaine Hayes, Todd Bost and Jamie Bost; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mildred Porritt of Michigan, Vivian Prater of Nevada; one brother Daniel Bost of Tenn. Several nieces, nephews and friends Besides his wife and parents, he was preceeded in death by daughter, Janet Hagman; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Howard and Marilyn Bost, Dennis Bost; grandson, Robbie Schoeneweis; one sister, Evelyn Weaver; three brothers-in-law, Francis Weaver, Kenneth Porritt, Kenneth Prater. Caleb was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. In 2011, Caleb and his daughter Donna took an Honor Flight to Washington D. C., which he enjoyed so much. He was a member of Wood River V.F.W. Post # 2859 and the Lewis and Clark Amateur Radio Club. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 30 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River where services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016. Minister Bob Tracey will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Military rites will be rendered by Alton VFW Post 1308. Memorials: Garden Court Activities at Liberty Village in Maryville.
