Carol Jane Combs, 78, of Alton, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, at Granite Nursing & Rehab in Granite City.

Born on January 19, 1946 in Springfield, MO, she was a daughter of the late Othel and Charlotte (Allen) Bean.

Carol and Paul K. Combs were married in October of 1965 in Wood River, IL.  Sadly, Paul passed away March 27, 2003.

Carol worked many years at numerous occupations until 1993 when she began working as an Administrative Executive at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey. In 1995 she moved to Greeley, CO and began working at the University of Northern Colorado.  Having worked 14 years in college administration, she retired in 2007.

Survivors include three sons, Brian Combs of Alton, Brad Combs of Las Vegas, Nevada, Aidan Combs of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Noah Combs, Phoebe Combs, Silas Combs, and another grandson; two sisters, Linda (Bean) of Utah, Delores Eberlin of Brussels.

Along with Paul and her parents, Carol was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Miller.

Services will be private.

Gray Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of arrangements.

Carol was a member of the Church Of Christ in Wood River and the Zonta International.  She was an exceptional baker & cook who loved to travel to mysterious places.  The more mysterious, the better, then excited to come home and tell her family all about the wonderful trip she had.  Carol was a prolific reader and loved watching movies. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed.
