Catherine Sue Riggins, 74, of Vandalia formerly of Wood River, passed away at 10:49 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026 at her residence, with her family by her side.
Born December 3, 1951 in Hastings, Nebraska, she was a daughter of the late Stanley W. and Doris J. (Walker) Burger.
Following a move to Illinois, she became a 1970 graduate of Roxana Community High School.
Cathy and Harold Gregory “Greg” Riggins were married on November 3, 1972 in Alton. He survives in Vandalia.
She worked as a Rehabilitation Assistant at SSM Rehabilitation Center in Wood River for 12 years before moving to Greenville where she was an Assistant Manager of the Casey’s General Store there. They have lived the last 25 years in Greenville and Vandalia.
One of her favorite things to do was play bingo. Fishing was high on her list for fun. Not only did she love it, she was very good at it. Their fishing trips gave them many wonderful memories. She loved her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was such a blessing.
Survivors include one daughter Melissa A Riggins of Greenville; one son, Thomas L Riggins of Wood River; six grandchildren, Scott and Kaylynn Riggins of Greenville, Makenzie Riggins of Bethalto, Alexis and Johnathan Williams of Greenville, Kaylee Massey of Greenville, Carl Riggins of Wood River, Caleb England of Wood River; six great-grandchildren, Elaina, Ava, Landyn, Kaesyn, RiLynn, Mylah Riggins, and one on the way; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Larry Blankenship of Godfrey, Helen and Jim Morrisey of Godfrey.
Along with her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brenden M. Riggins, Ricki Jo Riggins; one brother, David W. Burger.
A celebration of Cathy’s life will begin a 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River. Rev. Stephen Gray will officiate.
Memorials have been designated to the Bond County Hospice at 503 S. Prairie St. Greenville, IL 62246
