David Allen Cotton, 52, of Wood River, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born on May 12, 1972 in Alton.  David is the son of Terry Michael Gust of Edwardsville and Linda Jane (Cotton) Basset of South Roxana.

David and the former Kimberly "Kim" Kiffmeyer of Wood River were married on August 21, 2004 in Wood River.  She survives.

David had been employed with the Ameristar Casino in St. Charles, MO.  He worked as a Hard Count/Soft Count for several years before retiring.

One of David's favorite things was watching Nascar racing and remembering the times that his Grandma Betty had taken him to the track as a young boy. He loved playing the game iRacing on line with his cousins, Brain and Jason. He was fascinated by trains and enjoyed listening in on his train scanner while watching the train as it pass down the track.  Fishing behind the Hog Pit in Grafton was a favorite activity in the summer time.  A winter pass time was painting on ceramics and canvas.

Besides his wife and parents, David is survived by a daughter, Ashley Brooke Cotton of Wood River; three half-sisters, Holly, Amy Jo, Michelle; two half-brothers, Noah, Josh; mother-in-law, Mary Kiffmeyer of Wood River; two sisters-in-law, Irma, Sharon; three, brothers-in-law, Jim, Mike & Kim, Kenny; nephew, Zack; several other nephews, nieces and cousins.

David was preceded in death by his grandmother Betty Mason; father-in-law, Bob Kiffmeyer; uncle, John O'Dell; brother-in-law, Clint Champlin.

A memorial celebration of David's life will be at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.  Services will follow at 7:00 with brother-in-law Mike Kiffmeyer officiating

Burial is private.

David will be sadly missed by all who know and love him.
