GODFREY Florence L. Carter, 89, died at 6:32 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at her residence. She was born May 24, 1923, in Charleston, Ill., the daughter of the late Charles C. and Margurite R. (Eaton) Kirkendoll. She married Dennie Earl Carter in Dec. 1945, in East Alton. He passed away on Aug 26, 1987. She was an inspector at Standard Oil in Wood River. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Alton. She is survived by one daughter, Paula J. Edwards of Godfrey; two sons, Mark B. Carter of Bethalto and Dennis Carter of Alton; three grandchildren, Charles William Vahle, Michelle Vahle and Dawn Pace; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary L. Bagwell of Olney; and a niece, Shirley Amador. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Madonna Star Carter; two sisters, Katherine M. Stewart and Charlotte Kirkendoll; and one brother, Charles C.
