Wood River,

Glen David Gray, age 70, peacefully passed away at 5:47 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016, at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis, with his family by his side.

Born November 21, 1946 in Alton, he was a son of the late Jacob Ansell and Helen (Ferrell) Gray.

Glen and the former Janice L. Boswell of Wood River, were married October 16, 1965 at Bethel Free Will Baptist church in South Roxana.

After serving in the Army as an Engineer-Atomic Demolitions Expert during the Vietnam War era, he returned home to work at McDonnell Douglas Corp. in St. Louis, Glen decided to go to S.I.U. Carbondale in 1970 for his Associates degree in Mortuary Science.  In 1978, he Co-founded Gray Funeral Home in Wood River with his family.

Glen served the community for over 38 years with the same compassion and integrity that the Gray family will continue in his memory.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Ansell and Denise Michele (McClintock) Gray of Maryville; son-in-law, Steve Gingerich of Pack Wood, IA; four grandchildren, Jacob Ansell, Caleb Michael, Hannah Kimberley and Levi Stephen Gray, all of Maryville; two sisters, Karen Smith of East Alton, Susan Gray of East Alton; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Debbie Gray of Nixa, MO, Doyle and Faye Stegall of South Roxana, Gladys Hannis of Wanda; many nieces and nephews, great and great-great.

Preceding Glen in death, besides his parents, is a daughter, Clark Ann Gingerich; brother, Laren A. Gray; brothers-in-law, David Smith, Royall and Rodney Hannis.

A celebration of Glen's life will begin at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2016 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2016 at Gray Funeral Home. Officiating will be Glen's son and pastor, Stephen A. Gray and Rev. Ivan Ryan

Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

Memorials may be given to Discovery Family Church in Collinsville, where Glen was a member.
