James Daniel Carter, 66, of Hartford, passed away at 2:43 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2024 at his residence with his family by his side.

James was born May 23, 1958 in Portageville, MO. He was a son of the late James William and Lula Francis (Melton) Carter.

He and the former Pamela Sue Whalen were married in Wood River and she survives.

James had worked as a Brick Maker at Richards Brick Company in Edwardsville for many years before retiring.

Along with his wife, James is survived by two sons, Jason Matthew Carter of Bethalto, Gary Joseph Carter of Troy; three grandchildren, Taylor Carter of Alton, Zachary Carter of Alton, Joseph Carter of Alton; one sister, Bonnie Arnel of Nebraska; two brothers, Dave Carter and Sandy of South Roxana, Roger Carter and Linda of South Roxana.

Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Sue and Ruby; five brothers, Harold, Harvey, Wayne, Virgil, Junior.

A celebration of life for James will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.

Services will following at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Steve Gray officiating.

Burial will be private.

James will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
