WOOD RIVER — Jenevie B. McCleery, 89, formerly of Alton, passed away at 8:26 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Christian N E Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, with her family by her side.

Jennie was born March 3, 1929, in Wood River, she was a daughter of Clarence and Eva (Williams) Payne.

She married Harold L. McCleery, and he passed away January 19, 2002.

Jennie was a switch board operator for Monticello, Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey, retiring in 1992 after many years of service.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Stiles of Wood River and Terri Warren and Bill of Wood River; three grandchildren: Shannon Stiles and Khrista of Collinsville, Shawn Stiles and April of Collinsville, and Casey Lackey and Brian of Wood River; one great-grandchild, Braeden Lackey of Wood River; niece, Sue Gillingham and Robert of Godfrey; nephew, Steve Payne of St. Louis.

Besides her husband and parents, Jennie was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Grieve and two brothers, Leroy and Joel Payne.

Services will be private. Rev. Stephen Gray will officiate.

Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
