Wood River,
Jewel Edward Finley, 86, passed away at 3:50 pm. Friday, March 20, 2015, at his residence with family by his side.
He was born December 30, 1928 in Caruthersville, MO., to John and Bessie (Owens) Finley, one of seven children.
Jewel married the former Alta Scott. She passed away December 16, 2004.
An Army Air Core Veteran, he was discharged in 1947 shortly before the military started the US Air Force.
He retired in 1990 as a Truck Driver for Airco, then started his own Lawn Service of which he continued to work in the summer of 2014.
Survivors include, two daughters and one son in law, "Dot" Morris of Alton, Parthenia E. Puckett and Jesus R. Padilla of Wood River; one son, Phillip L. Finley, Sr. of Wood River, eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, 3 brothers and a grandson, Jewel Edward "Eddie" Finley, II.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. , Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.
Committal Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday following the visitation at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton.
