Jiacomina "Jay" M. Mini of Wood River, 103, passed away at 7:25 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville.
Jay, as she was called, was born May 20, 1920 in Alton. She was a daughter of the late Michelangelo "Mike" and Anna (Galione) Mini.
Jay began her working career as a cook for the Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis, MO, WWII broke out and the Army asked her to work as a Clerk at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO. After the war, she worked as a Clerk for the Universal Match Co. in St. Louis, then as an IBM Operator for the Banking Industry in St. Louis. Her final work place was at Stix Baer & Fuller in St. Louis, retiring after many years.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, also a member of the International Catholic Deaf Association of which she loved to travel yearly to their conventions which were nationwide.
Jay is survived by six, nieces, Betty Marmino of Godfrey, Rosemary Well of FL, Kathy Deckard of FL, Antoinette Chiodo of Chicago, Carmen Menchaca of Chicago, Mary Ann Neelay of FL; three nephews, Anthony Mini of MO, Michael Mini of FL, Charles Marmino of Rosewood Heights.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine Marmino, Rosemary Chido, Anna Rose Mini; one brother, Vincent Mini.
Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. service time on Thursday December 21, 2023 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River. Father Donald Wolford will be officiating.
Burial will be private at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton.
The family of Aunt Jay wishes to thank the staff at Jerseyville Manor for all the special care they provided.
