John H. Van Etten, 80, died at 10:57 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born May 1, 1931, in Flint, Mich., to Cleo and Vera (Peterson) Van Etten. The U.S. Army veteran had been an over-the-road truck driver. Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Theresa and Joe Parker of East Alton, Gail Van Etten and Nadine McCombs, both of Burton, Mich.; two sons, Harold Van Etten of Burton, Mich., and Dean Van Etten of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Geraldine Neville of Hale, Mich., and Nancy Totten of Grandblanc, Mich.; and one brother, Bill Van Etten of West Branch, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Bob Van Etten; and one brother, Don Van Etten. Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River, where the Rev. Rob Ellard will officiate at services at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to that of one's choice.
