Juanita Whitley GREENVILLE Juanita Delores Whitley, 62, lost her battle with cancer at 5:40 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her children and family. Born Jan. 8, 1950, in Chicago, she was the daughter of Juanita D. (Collins) Massey of Riverdale and stepfather, Andrew Whitley, deceased; her father, Eugene Massey, also deceased. She married Walter Springfield and he preceded her in death. Lifelong companion, James Jamison, died in 2010. Her former companion, Henry Gower, resides in Mississippi. She was a social worker with Illinois Family Resources. Survivors include one daughter, Tamieka (Obed) Johnson of Alton; three sons, David (Tracy) Whitley of Indianapolis, Damon (Melissa) (Riggins) Massey, very special daughter-in-law, of Greenville, and Darryll Massey of Alton; 13 grandchildren, Lakeisha, Lameeka, David, Deonna, Shaterria, Scott, Shanita, Shamika, Elyssa, Daevisha, Alexis, Ta'Dryell and Kaylee; six great-grandchildren; nine sisters, Odessa Mcherron, Dorothy Collins, Patricia Whitley, Marie Lemon, Deborah (James) Williams, "favorite" Sharon (Gregory) Butler, Brenda (Darrin) Martin, Linda (Eugene) Emory and Veronica (Patrick) Rawls; four brothers, Andrew Whitley Jr., Paul Massey, Robert Massey and Gregory Massey; special friends, Diane Lacey, Magnolia, Adrian and Walley. She was proceeded in death by brother, Eugene Massey; and brothers-in-law, Bill Mcherron and James Lemon. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River, where services will be held at 3 p.m. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be to the family.
