Marvin Allen Turner, 81, passed away at 5:25 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019 at Alton Memorial Hospital. His family was by his side.

Born June 14, 1938 in Alton, he was a son of the Late David and Pearl (Rutman) Turner.

He was raised by his beloved grandma, Sarah Kelly.

Marvin and the former Betty "Tootsie" J. Mathis were married on May 1, 1959 in Alton.  She survives.

For over 20 years, Marvin work for the National Marine Co. in Hartford, retiring in 2000.

Besides his wife, Marvin is survived by one daughter, Patricia Bryant of East Alton; daughter-in-law, Jayme Turner of Alton; one son Gary Turner and his wife Malinda of Wood River; seven grandchildren, Keely Younger, Allen and Lindsey Turner, Allison Turner, Briana Bryant, Katelyn and Andrew McCracken, Kyler and Sabrina Turner, Joshua Turner; eight great-grandchildren, Aurora, Chloe, Hunter, Melody, Clark, Sophia, Porter, Hudson;  Heather Groetecke, a niece who he loved like a daughter; one sister, Patricia Carter of Pennsylvania; one brother, Gary Turner and his wife Elaine of Medora. Many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and grandparents, Marvin was preceded in death by a son David Turner; three sisters, Juanita Heck, Ruth Wilson and Thelma Bosoluke; two brothers, David and Clarence Turner.

Marvin is a US Marine Veteran.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2019 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River with services starting a 11:00 a.m.

Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.

Memorials may be given to the family.
