May 31, 1936 – June 16, 2019
Mary Elizabeth Allsman, 83, passed away at 3:27 p.m., Sunday, June 16, 2019 at her residence, with family by her side.
She was born May 31, 1936 in Summerville. Mary was a daughter of the late Jabe Foster and Lora (Bell) Foster Williams.
She married Donald E. Whalen and he passed away January 1, 1983. Then on December 29, 1987, Mary and Robert L. Allsman were married in East Alton. Robert also passed away on March 6, 2004,.
Mary worked many years as a unit clerk at Wood River Twp. Hospital and Alton Memorial Hospital before retiring in 2004.
Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Carter and James of Hartford, Sherry Smith and Kevin of Hartford, Cathy Arnold and Rodney Cline of Caseyville; two sons, Ronald Whalen and Patty Johnson of Alton, Donald "Porky" Whalen and Jolene of Woodward, OK; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Gentry of Helena, AR; two half-brothers, Tom Foster of Meadowbrook and Alfred Foster of Omaha, NE.
Mary's granddaughter Emily Smith, was able to work around a heavy work schedule in order to help care for Mary during her illness.
Besides her husbands and parents, Mary was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Kay Foster.
A celebration of Mary's life will begin at 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River. Where services will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Auten officiating.
Burial will be at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
Memorials have been designated to BJC Hospice to which Mary's family is very grateful for the excellent care given to Mary and support for her family.
