Sherman Junior Orris, 83 of East Alton, passed away at 7:38 a.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born September 21,1942 in Alton and was a son of the late Sherman Augustus and Eileen (Eddinger) Orris.
Sherman and the former Jacqueita “Jackie” Sue Duncan were married on September 22, 1960 in East Alton. Sadly, Jackie passed away on May 7, 2011
As a young man, Sherman worked at Owens Illinois Glass Works in Alton for a while. He then was an Operator at the Amoco Standard Oil Refinery in Wood River for over 30 years before retiring. After retiring he decided to go back to work as a Driver for Challenge Unlimited in Alton.
Sherman was an Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam Era.
Survivors include one daughter, Felicia Sue Lueth and husband Mike of Millstadt, one son, Jason Sherman Orris of East Alton; one Grandson, Gabe Michael Lueth of Millstadt.
Besides Jackie and his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Kate Gillis; one brother, Stanley Egan.
A celebration of Sherman’s life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2025 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River with services following at 11:00. Eulogy will be given by Frank Akers.
Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
One of his hobbies was drag racing and he enjoyed auto mechanic’s. Sherman was a big sports fan. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals, NFL, college and high school football games.
Sherman and his wonderful sense of humor will be missed but the memories will stay with us.
