EAST ALTON —Sylvia P. Barnes Evans, 87, passed away at 6:55 a.m. Nov. 2, 2014, at her residence with family near.
Sylvia was born on April 3, 1927, in Pearl, the daughter of Raymond F. and Grace (Butler) Long.
She married Arthur D. Barnes, and then Jim Evans, both preceded her in death. Her companion, John Daley of East Alton survives.
She worked as a hand packer-loader for Olin Winchester Corp in East Alton for 18 years retiring 1977.
Sylvia was a member of East Alton American Legion Post #794 for 50 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheri Tarvin of Wood River; son, Arthur Kent Barnes of Roxana; 14 grandchildren, Niall Tarvin, Danielle Heiens, Shannon Tarvin, Brian, Kevin, David and Josh Barnes, Rachel Trentham, Courtney Hopkins, Tab and Chastity Barnes, Wade Barnes, Lainey Barnes, Casey Roettgers; 31 great-grandchildren, Brendon, Dylan and Haley Tarvin, Austin Lavite, Hannah Weller, Megan Tarvin, Kelsey Gallia, Jaxon Tarvin, Garrett, Nathan, Corey, Devin, Jarad, Jordan, Aryian and Tailor Barnes, Hunter Trentham, Blake, Shyanne, Jesse, Skyler and Siearra Barnes, Tyler, Kelsey, Brittany and Acea Barnes, Jayde and Skylar Maupin, Samantha Martin, Tammy and Chelsey Roettgers; five great-great-grandchildren, Zayden, Trinity, Kira, Ava and Layla; one brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Sue Long of Fosterburg.
Besides her two husbands and parents, she was proceeded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann Barnes; two sons, Jack D. and Larry E. Barnes; two grandchildren, Deon and Josh Barnes; two Great-grandchildren, Connor and Dominic Tarvin; one great-great-grandchild, Debra Barnes; a sister, Alberta Camere.
A celebration of Sylvia's life will begin at 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, at which time there will be a service, at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.
Burial will be private.
