Virginia L. Chamberlain, 88, passed away at 1:32 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, MO.

She was born March 6, 1930 in Carbondale and was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Flora (Gurley) Sammons.

Virginia married Donald G. Chamberlain on March 25, 1949 in East Alton by Rev Bill Bohn. Sadly Donald passed away on January 7, 1995.

Having graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School in June of 1947, she went to work at the Illinois State Bank in East Alton. The Bank sold three times before she retired in September of 1999, with 52 years in Banking, the bank is now Regions.

Virginia was a member of the Meadowbrook Church of God, now Lifebrook Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of The Nile and was an avid Cardinal baseball fan.

Surviving are one daughter, Jane M. Hickey and John of O'Fallon, MO; one son, David L. Chamberlain of Wood River; one granddaughter, Danielle (Chamberlain) West and George of Missouri; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and friends.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters; Margaret Christie, Evelyn Hilyard, Betta Cox; one brother Johnny Sammons; one brother-in-law, Ronald Chamberlain and Norma.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2018, at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River where services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2018. Rev. Randy Butler will officiate.

Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be given to the First Church of God in Meadowbrook and the First Baptist Church in East Alton.

Virginia will be missed by her family and friends.
