Obituary

William Samuel Nesbit, 73 of Alton, passed away at 6:40 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2024 at

La Bella of Alton, with family by his side.

Bill was born on March 30, 1951 in Wood River.  He was a son of the late William Howard and Charlotte Jean (Smith) Nesbit.

Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army.  He was a hard worker and ran his own business as a Welder.  He worked for 45 years before retiring.

He was formerly married to Pamela S. (Womack) Nesbit of Alton. She is the mother of his children and she survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Tammy Davis and her husband Shawn of Roxana; one son, Chance Nesbit of Alton; five grandchildren, Tyler McMillen, Dena Nesbit, Breanna Davis, Alex Davis, Josh Davis; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Kopsie of East Alton; one brother, Robert Nesbit of Cottage Hills.

He spent many hours working on hot rods, which was one of Bill's hobbies. He loved to fish, being in a boat on a lake was his happy place.  His skill for catching bass and crappie was well known among family and friends.  He takes credit for some very large bass.

A celebration of Bill's life will begin at 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River.

Services will begin at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Gray Funeral Home with Rev. James R. Hooker officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
